Derek Wallace had always had the dream of owning his own business. An outdoor enthusiast, Derek took to biking as a way to enjoy his favorite setting. Seeing the beauty of the area while also getting a great work out became his favorite pastime. Derek competed in multiple endurance races and soon realized his desire of wanting to help others experience the benefits of riding.
Soon his dream of business owner and his passion of biking merged. Being familiar with Houston, MN, and the bike trail there, his instinct told him that this would be the perfect setting for a bike shop. Together with his wife, Brittany and family, Derek began planning to open his own bike shop.
The Wallace’s reached out to me as their dreams were coming to fruition. They needed some help with their brand. Since Houston is the home of all things owl, it seemed only fitting that they incorporate the bird into their brand. The owl is an exceptionally quick and silent flier which seemed to offer an obvious parallel with the activity of biking. And with that inspiration in mind, Owl City Cycles was born.
They had their name, but now needed their look. They reached out to me to develop a logo. The Wallace’s gave me creative freedom to try several different designs, exploring all options for their potential logo. After some discussion, they narrowed it down until, at last, they landed on the one.
When there is passion inside of someone that cannot be harnessed, that is when the dream becomes a reality. It’s truly the best part of my job to witness just that. What a pleasure it was to be a part of this exciting new adventure for the Wallace’s. I wish them all the best.
